Summary:
Matron Mother Do'Urden,
Allow me to introduce myself, as I am certain your Patron, Rizzen Do'Urden, has told you of me, and my interest in your son. I am Archmage Alustriel Silverhand, current protector of Silverymoon. I am very grateful that, despite the setbacks in your family, you have chosen to pursue trade with my city.
Forgive any transcription errors, please, as I have not yet fully grasped the language your son was teaching me. I had to ask a contact among the Obsidian elves to help me with the words, and was warned the dialect might be incorrect.
I have asked my own Goddess to learn if my attempts to reach your son were within the bans of his exile, and She has assured me that such effort is within your Lady's grace. I wish nothing to imperil him, or your own consort. But having managed that, I wish you to know that I, and my people, will do all we can to keep his spirits up during the time he must be away from us in that world.
I do hope that your city is now recovering, with the necessary actions leading to a better way for all of you.
Drizzt is thriving, as seems to be one of his strongest traits. He has a safehold for himself, a purpose to keep him strong. We are keeping the shrine he made here clean, and I wished to ask if there are days that we should light votives or leave small offerings. We have the calendar he worked out, to match with yours, to guide us, if there is something we can do for your Lady here.
With my sincerest wishes of amity between us,
Alustriel Silverhand
The powerful wizard sat back from writing her first missive, folding it elegantly, then setting her seal to it. She would give it to Saer Do'Urden or his delegate when the trade wagon arrived, as it was expected within the week. She hoped the words of Drizzt helped bring comfort to the mother of her beloved.
Archmage Silverhand,
Your diligence in protecting my son from crossing the boundaries of his exile are appreciated. I must insist that you not mention us, directly or indirectly, as that would be considered crossing the line, for him to know how life fares in the city of his birth.
I found your request concerning my son's shrine touching. I've enclosed the dates of his birth, his acceptance as a Hunter, and his graduation from the Temple as a Dedicated Hunter. These days would be permissible for an uninitiated person to offer for him to the Hunting Spider.
Our city is finding its way, and the novelty of trade goods my House brings in has aided in distracting from more serious matters. The hospitality my consort has received in your city is appreciated. We are looking at expanding the trade to another race, as Rizzen will discuss with you when he brings this letter.
Keep yourself safe, for the sake of my son's return. He has more than earned the right to be indulged in the fullness of a Heart's Curse after all of this!
Matron Malice Do'Urden, High Priestess of the Vengeful Spider
"See, no threats made at all to her," she chided Rizzen in a playful voice, as her consort read over the letter — at her invitation. He was the face of their trade, and deserved to know.
"I had no doubts," he assured her. "Surface folk are softer, though, and I am learning the nuance of that gentler way, so I can negotiate without coming off as too firm or sharp for them."
"You?" Malice drew him to her. "Are not the sharp one of our family, but that does mean the ones above are very soft, to think you might be edged." She let him set the letter down, before guiding him to bed, to put aside worries for son and her other consort in the warmth he brought her.
Esteemed Forest King,
In response to your protection of my heiress and her sister, I can only say you have my unending gratitude. Amalda is well on her way to being every bit the leader I envisioned for her. She has told me of your kindness, and I wish you to know that we will be your allies for as long as we hold our lands.
On a second note of curiosity, I am asking for confirmation of an interesting family history note. My grandmother was secreted out of these lands, and eventually raised by a small cothold family. A ruby and the spear tip I even now use on my weapon of choice were with the infant she was. Was it your doing that saw my grandmother to those that raised her? If so, my gratitude goes back generations.
Please, do not hesitate to call upon us for aid. I now understand better the role you have played on our borders and find your heart to be of one nature with us.
Gerta, Dragonlady
Drizzt looked at Rusie as she finished reading it, and nodded. "Yes. That was the first infant I ever found, and knew I was not able to care for her properly."
"I'll write a response to her, and send it back with Liev when he goes back," Rusie said, smiling for finally having her protector's kindness and care acknowledged.
