Summary:
There were many nights that Alustriel wondered if her beloved elf-lord had returned to her in the form of Drizzt Do'Urden. They could not be certain enough of the dating on two events — Sharr's death versus Drizzt's birth — but Alustriel knew they were close together. It seemed to her that after such a long life, Sharr should not have come back so soon, and yet…
It would be like Corellon to spark a revolution through His Lore Keeper being brought back as a rare goodly drow with such passion for learning, protecting others, and doing more good than anyone had a right to demand of a single person. Such musings were always kept to herself, but they had solidified as a theory when Drizzt's very pet name for her was an echo of Sharr's chosen one.
She was good at not letting it flavor her reactions to Drizzt, not that she had much in the way of moderation toward him. His ability to draw her into enjoying life fully was a welcome breath of fresh air in a life that had been marked by grief for the decades she had missed Sharr. Perhaps, even if not Sharr's soul, Drizzt had been chosen for her by some benign choice of fate.
It was a whimsical thought to go alongside the idea of reincarnated partners, entertaining her.
